Amandaland winning the festive TV offerings, Jennifer Saunders was amazing in a pretty much stand out cast. Very funny.

Really enjoying @elizabethalker.bsky.social book Everything We Do Is Music. I’m taking a blended approach, listening to it on walks and reading the printed version. Readable/ listenable in the extreme but also invaluable in joining up dots.

Reassessing The Fall’s Levitate. What sounded desperate in 1997 now sounds innovative. Like a new album.

Another Christmas and another excellent seasonal @stuartmaconie.bsky.social Freakzone. This one is full of ghostly tunes and stories. Excellent companion to the Archive on 4 Christmas Ghost story doc. Beginning to feel like Christmas

I’ve defended the BBC in recent times by divorcing the news from the cultural and entertainment departments. This is incredibly worrying.
Just one final thing - someone filmed some of my departure speech after Monkey Cage last night (I should make it clear no one knew I was going to do it) and it has been put up here - i cannot deny i was very emotional #science #comedy

Loved this week’ Freak Zone @stuartmaconie.bsky.social talked to Steve Hanley and Stewart Lee and played tracks from Trout Mask Replica plus Tomorrow’s World and new oddities. What’s not to like? Not totally sold on Caravan though…

Can’t remember the last time I listened to Sugar’s Copper Blue, I’d like to think I have since the 90s but can’t be sure. Listened to it this morning and every song hit me as a memory or old friend.

Can’t quite take in the news about Mani. He was what drew me to the Stone Roses and the shows I saw Primal Scream do with him in were some of the best rock and roll I’ve seen live. RIP

This is a lovely surprise. A deep, reflective podcast about my times in music, particularly NME days & my connection to Irish music. Cheers Paul McDermott @learnandsing.bsky.social for including me in his landmark series - To Here Knows When.
