Developmental biologist & geneticist, avid bibliophile (often science fiction) & melophile (particularly piano and synthesizers). Please don’t DM if we don't know each other. All opinions are mine only!

“Can't we all get along?" -Rodney King

Show mercy.
Ultimately I didn’t care for RF Kuang’s Babel (can’t say why exactly without spoiling).

But Katabasis was charming and fun - I think a life spent in academia enhances one’s reading, but anyone with head on their shoulders and a little education will get the jokes. Delightful.

Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio: a mushroom
of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy: he hath
borne me on his back a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is!

I only read a few #poetry books a year. I’ve memorized a few in my 60+ years & I’ve a half shelf of criticism about poetry.

I started this one by Louise Glück. It’s big -over 600 pages. I’m reading it because she won the Nobel prize & because it has a cool cover. I’ll finish it in about a year.

It’s that time of year again. When we GAIN an hour.

And this means it’s time for my annual appeal to your sense of humanity and logic that we do this each and every month.

Folks, we GAIN AN HOUR ! C’mon!

I highly recommend Luminous by @silviapark.bsky.social. A thoughtful novel about family, memory, and identity in a near future where very plausible robots are becoming part of society. Should be nominated for all the awards! #ScienceFiction

I’ve incorporated two new rules in my cooking.

1) Add ginger to everything.
2) There no such thing as too much ginger.

Today, in West Virginia, spotted a wild bird running in the grass. We think it was a turkey.

I gotta interrupt my current book because it was my turn for this waiting-list library book.

I took a lot of memorable walks in 2025. These are from a good day.

Time to reread Robert Silverberg’s 1976 novel, Shadrach in the Furnace.
