I will accept the Democrats agreeing to open the government to allow for food aid for Americans.

Galaxy Quest springs to mind. Loving satire of Star Trek and its fans.

Psalm 82.
Defend the weak and the fatherless;
uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.
Rescue the weak and the needy;
deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

I am watching the deconstruction of the USA. Our President does not care for reality (300 Million Americans dead last year from drug abuse), for legality (too many examples to list), for morality (are there any commandments he hasn't violated?).

I'd like to suggest the Children of Time series by Adrian Tchaikovsky. It has a very striking use of POV from - nearly - alien species. His ability to create an alien perspective, and then build bridges to human understanding is uncanny.

Your story takes me right back to those days in elementary school. Not good memories for me, but great lessons from you.

Replay by Ken Grimwood. Hard to say why, but one of my favorites. Starts with the initial excitement of knowing the future, exploiting that knowledge, regrets, and all along following the most intimate of romances.

Another from the past: The Last Defender of Camelot, by Roger Zelazny.

I can't believe I missed this one. In honor of your callback in the last episode to Slippery Jim DiGriz, I would like to mention the classic "Star Smashers of the Galaxy Rangers."

The Malazan series (long, complex, rewarding) mixes magic and gunpowder. No rifles (yet) but explosives.

Love the carpet analogy. I think you have the answers to your questions.

I have bad news from the 60s.

I would choose 'honest.'
