Initially, addictions seem to promise us everything. In reality, they cost us exactly what they seemed to promise as making possible. They steal exactly what we were looking for in them. This is a law of addiction, and the penalty for denying any addiction is the loss of whatever we're after.

When we lie to ourselves and stick those lies, it becomes a sick lifestyle, and the cost of sustaining falsehoods becomes habitual. Numbing painful emotions that we can't avoid binds us to them & becomes denial and addiction. Habititually avoiding such emotions sustains whatever addiction.

You can see immediately that everyone, without exception, has the spiritual disease. As for physical disease, they occur in some people some of the time. They aren't so terrible. They don't give people the constant suffering with every breath that spiritual disease does.

The mind composed of ignorance or wrong view suffers from spiritual disease: it sees falsely. Seeing falsely causes it to think falsely, speak falsely, and act falsely. Consequently, the disease lies right there in the false thought, speech, and action.

For myself, the socio-political is becoming less & less a concern of mine as the surface manifestations of something that runs much deeper. Like waves atop the vast deeps of an ocean. Progressing planetary imperilment must be addressed from the depths.

In AA, old timers talk about how geographic cures don't work. A change of location changes nothing for an alcoholic. You're just an alcoholic who's somewhere else. Like all alcoholics here on Earth, getting to Mars means only one thing: now we're alcoholics on Mars. That's our situation.

Our connection to the sacred has been severed. There's essential nourishment that we're not getting, and whether or not we realize it, we're in big trouble. In this condition, it doesn't matter one bit whether we're on Mars. No matter what galaxy we're in, we'd still be in trouble troubling Mars.

Any authentic solution to our current global quandary is going to be composed of ideas that "seem" impossible to realize on a truly holistic and global level. These ideas are, on first approach, gonna be perceived as subversively foreign to cultural & personal predisposition.

The traditional ways in which we related to nature and the world around us, were all based in a spirituality had very concrete implications. There were many simple ceremonies, as I call them. Today, they are largely forgotten.

With the Indigenous, you can see the same pattern everywhere settler colonialism took hold: traditional spirituality was the first element of the culture to be attacked. You find churches all across the colonized world, not least on the "reservations" Indigenous people were & are confined to.
