Mark in Berlin
@markjb.bsky.social
Brit in Berlin, previously in Bangkok. 1. FC Union Berlin, EFC. Sometime writer @ https://berlintobangkok.com and https://www.unionberlin.international/

Was UnionBerliner on the other one...
6 years back we had a long weekend in Seoul and had absolutely no idea how bitterly cold it would be.

Coming from Bangkok it was quite a shock, but what a wonderful place!

I'm sure everyone's keen to re-live the game yesterday.

I wrote this report so we can all enjoy it again 🙈

Union 1–2 Heidenheim. Two goals conceded in added time. Tough one to swallow. Kopf hoch, Unioner. Eisern weiter. Our match report here unionberlin.international/blog/fcu-fch

I really like this concept of kilo sales where you pay for secondhand clothes by weight.

There's a good one in Marzahn every few weeks, endless selection and fun to dig through the rails.

In bed with a coffee on a freezing morning, watching wickets tumble all over the place on the other side of the world.

Nothing beats the Ashes!

On really crappy Berlin weather days like this I like to cheer myself up looking at what we were doing this time previous years in Thailand.

6 years ago it was this stunner - Phra Nakhon temple-cave in Sam Roi Yot national park.

Unbelievably beautiful!

Toddler comes home with pockets and sometimes hat full of acorns, every time we go to the woods.

Threw a few in the fridge to see if we could sprout a few.

Plants are magic.

Unusual visitor rolling (slowly) past us just now

According to Google, 5 years since this trip to Songkhla in southern Thailand.

Had absolutely no expectations before going, but it's a stunning little place - all old buildings, street art, natural scenery and amazing food.

Daughter keeps collecting leaves for us from the daycare garden.

We made it into this magnificent thing, which I fear is growing exponentially every day

As a kid I was an enthusiastic member of the Young Ornithologists Club in the UK so crane migration season over Berlin is no joke a highlight of my year.

A delicious win, under the lights

Now this is the kind of autumn day I can get on board with.

I used to bake quite a lot of bread, but don't often have time any more.

Yesterday I tried just dumping all the bread ingredients in a stand mixer and letting it do the work.

Turns out the KitchenAid took a fraction of the effort and did a better kneading job than I ever did 😂

I don't mean to boast but I actually saw Union lose twice this weekend.

What we didn't gain in points we made up for in cherished memories. And trains.

Yesterday's connection stop was in Wuppertal, home to this magnificent bastard of a hanging monorail.

It's a great shame for us all that these did not catch on anywhere except Wuppertal.

Wuppertal's gain, our loss.

It's the most wonderful time of the year.

The hot cheeses are flowing,
My arteries glowing,
My organs in feeeaaaar

It's the cheese toastiest time of the year.
