It's not the age, it's the mileage.

At 1 he the podcast is 2/3 the length of the film and vastly more enjoyable. One can only sit back and think what might have been had someone competent been in charge.

So not rewatching biggles then?

"Vote for the crook" by itself not doing enough to narrow the field of French candidates.

Raoul Bott was a delight to meet. A god to a certain breed of mathematician, but polite and humble.

The one that stuck with me: "Fifteen members of the Huwaitat tribe who protested against their eviction were sent to prison, some for up to 50 years, and three others were sentenced to death, according to human rights observers."

I remember watching this back in the eighties and not rating it highly. Doesn't bode well for the rewatch as teenage me was not that discerning.

Just watched this for the first time ahead of listening to the podcast. Not sure about war crimes, but Laurence Olivier's accent surely breaks some statutes somewhere.

Possibly overthinking this but:
Best death: Gollum (Denethor second, but prepared to be persuaded otherwise)

Body count: Huge (how does one tally zombie armies)

Problematic moment: 6 ft 1 actor playing a dwarf (also best digger in all of Egypt, but that's a problematic moment for a different film)

There are women in that film and one could make a convincing argument that it is the operation that changed the course of middle earth.

Hoping @warmovietheatre.bsky.social also has "Return of the King" on the ever expanding list.

There comes a point when we might have to acknowledge that maybe we aren't Taylor Swift's target audience.
