Jim Kelly and Gloria Hendry in 1974. Kelly was a martial arts icon appearing in Enter the Dragon, and Three the Hard Way. Gloria Hendry is best known as Rosie Carver, from the 007 film Live and Let Die. Both appeared in several blaxploitation films in the 1970s.

The Chopin Theater was opened in 1914. This 500 seat theater only played second run films. I spent many a Friday night here in my high school years. Double features like Inseminoid and The Incubus, coupled with free refills on popcorn and soda kept me coming back. It’s gone but the eagle remains.

Watched this gem again. THE QUATERMASS XPERIMENT (1955) The misspelling was intentional as the film drew an “X Certificate” from the BBFC. Hammer Productions was counting on it to draw in more viewers. Brian Donlevy was the star, but Jack Warner as Inspector Lomax stole the show.

The Cameo Theatre opened in 1924. One year later it was bought by Loews who changed the name to Kameo. As Brooklyn changed, so did the Kameo. It became the home to grindhouse blaxploitation films. It did not survive the blackout of ‘77. It is now a church. The restored ceiling is the original.
