The NHS is very skint right now, and has also just had to promise the pharma industry a review on the VPAG scheme from which the public sector was set to rake in massive cashback savings. If Trump has any success driving UK and US prices together, it will really call into question what we can afford

Medicines shortages are the crisis that never stops. Three years after this began to get scary for patients, it may even have worsened in 2024, based on firms warning of impending shortages. This isn’t unique to the UK, but we face being left behind as the EU comes up with big plans to fix it

The agreement with the EU lets us keep health insurance cards – rebranded for added patriotism, but basically the same. But it didn’t cover the Cross Border Directive, and coupled with a cash-strapped government, that has meant a big change for Northern Irish people crossing the border for care

Brexit led to a slump in EU staff – but instead of training more here, the UK recruited yet more heavily from the wider world. We should be thankful these professionals bailed us out, but worried that tens of thousands were taken from the world’s most under-staffed countries
