"If the dinner is free
And the dinner's not me
You can tell 'em we'll be there..."

Happy Hallowe'en (with the apostrophe, s’il vous plaît) from Toronto. With the World Series crowd mixing with the obligatory craziness on Church St., if the Blue Jays win it could be an "interesting" evening.

To be honest, before his killing I hadn't even heard of Charlie Kirk - had no idea who he was. But it's clear that his murder - cruel, callous murder - is MAGA's Reichstag Fire, the excuse for curtailing rights and demonizing the opposition. And we know what happened next...

It's sad to see the service of so many men and women (my father included) tainted by association with the first "Let's Ruin Washington DC Streets to Assuage an Oligarch's Ego" parade next Saturday. This was in today's New York Times - even the Waltons (of Walmart) have had enough.

The Former New York City General Post Office (now known as the James A. Farley Bldg.) was across 8th Avenue from Pennsylvania Station and was built to match its magnificence. And magnificent it remains. We built *post offices* like this, because it mattered to people. And people mattered.

I took this photo on a lamp post about 3 years ago in Göttingen (where I lived for a while). It sums up how I feel about the current administration and its merry band quite adequately.
