Yeah, but again, other than having a criminal suspect flee the country I don't see how releasing the files would impede any criminal investigation against someone now. If someone was actually arrested the government would have to turn over all the evidence anyway.

I guess? Not sure why releasing the files would impede an investigation now at this point. If there's evidence against someone in there, it's there.
