Mmm, discount pork.

That was my thought, but I'm closer to the problem.

Some of the others have committed murders.

So that's a tie.

My survivor bias has long turned to survivor guilt. I channel that into trying to help future generations avoid my mistakes.

Seriously, sunscreen.

What gets me, and I should be used to this too, is how little he gets called out for it (present company excluded; thank you.)

I feel for independent bookstores that lost money from "customers" who didn't show up like they may have said.

Once, in elementary school, I pointed out a mistake (double "the"; easy mistake to make in a pre-grammar-check world) in a book, and the teacher said "oh, and you never make mistakes."

I think of that when I make mistakes at something I'm paid to do.

Oklahoma, OK"--the song got it right this time.

My suggestion for an anti-AI workshop wasn't a goof; I think there's need for the industry to embrace that content creators want to fight having their work stolen, their environment polluted, and their editors overloaded with garbage. We could do THAT more efficiently.
December 18, 2025 at 12:44 AM
Have you thought about a "publishers against AI" Bootcamp? You could run topics like:

Fighting slop; protecting your work.
Fighting AI with AI: is it a Red Queen's Race?
Fundamentals of copyright protection.
Spellcheck, grammar check; where is the line?

Counterpoint: the one time I encountered overt sexism in my work search, I developed more empathy* for women who go through that all the time.

* I've still got growing to do, but I'm aware the score is about 183-1 in my own job searches, in my favor.

Christina Amphlett of the Divinyls was trained as an opera singer.

(RIP, miss, and thanks for some great music.)

And if you use the radiator to boil water, that's also really bad for the environment (using a gas engine), so that analogy works on a LOT of levels.

This looks like an MS-13 recruiting poster:

"You might not be perfect, but I like your odds here."

Normal, healthy=I've known you for what, two years? And we'll probably never meet in person, because, being here is my comfort zone (hopefully yours as well.)
December 17, 2025 at 11:20 PM
Also, there's a whole industry of "board games", though some computer versions have AI opponents (which is mostly not what people seem upset about.)

Also, "we literally stole an oil tanker, but you'll be safe in this country we're committing crimes against humanity against" is what looks like a tough sell.

UPDATE: Lex Luthor called, laughed, and said "lose this number."

Great, now I want cheese.

(Not your fault; for most of us, cheese is awesome. Cheese is famously better than Trump, because cheese is better than nothing, and Trump is worse than...what do you mean, Vance? What's my third choice again?)

I can't even give a gift card to other employees (unless it's for a very specific place, like Waffle House*), because it's considered too much like cash.

* These are real; none of this is Waffle House's fault.

I knew someone who said pets come into our lives to show us what life is for, and leave first to guard the way next. (It still hurts.)

It might be overshadowed by the 68 Ventures Bowl, but it'll probably be on YouTube later or something.

You don't have to hate that; I appreciate knowing when I was mistaken, and you brought receipts, so thanks twice.

(I don't like being mistaken--but with evidence I don't have to stay there.)

And replace him with whom?

(Gets a list thicker than a 1980's phone book.)
