Absolutely! It’s fascinating to see how the textbook position on alkyl groups can be refined. We have a few more papers to come.

No problem. From what i can see you clearly tick the boxes, so it’s just a case of evidencing it. With the new UKPSF, it’s a smaller document so you’ll be fine. Everyone gets overwhelmed by this.

I also found it overwhelming and struggled, but got through it and have now successfully mentored colleagues for the same. Feel free to reach out to me. Happy to help!

Yep. Back in the day, I even had people tell me that they did have kids, as if the space was a reward for having procreated!

Good job, and never be afraid to state the obvious. Students will be much more engaged if they know why they are learning something.

Citations depend on so many factors, not least the ‘size’ of the area. Ultimately we will all be most motivated doing things we passionately believe in. And everything worthwhile carries risk. It is not something to be avoided

Can you ditch them and self publish? Even if you have a contract, I would say they are likely not keeping their promises bd of the deal. There are definite advantages to self publishing. Feel free to reach out to me as I’ve gone down that route myself

You know, like it would be in the final published paper

Of course! Thanks! For me, the bigger issue is getting students to think first about moles when discussing quantities of matter
May 9, 2025 at 7:29 AM
Is it dimensionless in a functional sense? An Mr of 100 means that 100g contains 1 mole.

That’s awesome. Congratulations!

What have you got to lose?

Well, if you tell students that methylamine is more basic than ammonia because the methyl group increases negative charge on N, and that’s simply wrong, then it does need fixing!

I keep getting invitations to present my research at optometry conferences. Someone should have gone to specsavers!

Congratulations Dani. Very much deserved!

I was also going to say 1.2-dichloroethane. You can make comparisons with difluoroethabe depending on how deep you want to go. I have a lot of the leading references to hand if you need them

I’ve always said we need a journal of bloody good ideas that didn’t work. You know, the ones that really look like they should work, but they just don’t and no-one can see why
