Alberta land rights advocate. I specialize in oil and gas regulatory, public safety and surface rights issues, including urban land. Orphan well and unfunded liabilities dude. Vice Chair Polluter Pay Federation. New C4RE Coalition member.
The question arises: did Alberta govt. officials actions - interfering in an @AER_news quasi-judicial tribunal hearing - rise to the crime of obstructing justice under S. 139(2) of the Criminal Code (below)?

Note the definition of “judicial proceeding” describes an AER hearing.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who produces food from the land.

This year increased awareness was created amongst urban Albertans that irresponsible oil and gas is not just a rural problem.

I’m thankful for that and to those who joined together to help make it happen. 🙏

The final speaker in our fascinating and controversial series on Dave Yager’s Alberta Mature Asset Strategy Report is Bill Heidecker of the Alberta Surface Rights Federation(front right below).

The @thenarwhalca attended and accurately reported on two of these meetings.

Pls help spread the word!

If you are interested in keeping Alberta from going bankrupt because we let oil & gas run wild, you might want to attend this Mature Asset Strategy event on September 9th at 7PM. It’s shaping up to be quite a night with important attendees.

Holy! This X post by a very rude dude who has me blocked explains a lot.

If you don’t know who (broke) Pieridae is, or aren’t aware of their regulatory struggles, you won’t get it.

If you are between Calgary and Red Deer, Alberta and have concerns about who will bear the cost of oil & gas industry and regulatory gambles, come to a Town Hall tonight in Didsbury (7 PM Elks Hall):

Last night (Warburg) we had a lively, informative, respectful discussion, on Alberta’s Mature Asset Strategy.

@NagwanYYC.bluesky.social, shadow Energy & Mines minister, opposition NDP, spoke to landowners. She was warmly welcomed. 👏

A govt. official was in the audience making it interesting!

Are you in the Edmonton Drayton Valley, Alberta area?

Interested in the topic of who will bear the cost of closing down mature conventional oil & gas infrastructure in the near future, industry or you?

$130 billion is on the line.

Come to Warburg tonight:

I’m busy helping organize two free events to inform citizens and host oil & gas landowners about Alberta’s Mature Asset Strategy (posters below).

If you live near Edmonton come to Warburg August 12.

If you live in Calgary or in the area to the north come to Didsbury August 14.

Are the rights of those who host oil and gas on their land about to be weakened under the guise of Alberta's Mature Asset Strategy?

Will citizens be required to cover the cost of industry sins through new legislation in the fall?

The discussion starts in Didsbury on August 14. Join us!

Our Surface Rights Group series of talks & discussion on the Alberta Govt. Mature Asset Strategy continues August 12 at 7PM in Warburg. Is it a scam?

Special Guest Speaker Nagwan Al Guneid, Official Opposition shadow cabinet Energy and Minerals. She is seeking landowner feedback on energy issues.

Here is a screenshot showing the documents in the AER's file as at July 9, 2025 (two applications, submissions and a request for more submissions).

Here are instructions and a screen shot on how to follow the file using the Alberta Energy Regulator Integrated Application Registry Tool on the AER website.

I’m grateful for the media coverage of our Coalition for Responsible Energy (C4RE) launch last week.

But negative health impacts of irresponsible oil & gas operations that Dr. Norm Campbell (pictured below) spoke of were somewhat overshadowed.

Let’s begin to do far better Alberta!

What confuses me is why the Grassy Mountain AER hearing commissioner panel would attach DRAFT coal and water licences & permits to its Decision Report rather than actual licences etc. Is this so other AER staff can issue final licences etc.?
Unfortunately the panel didn't explain.

Background:
Related to previous participatory hearing Proceeding ID 375, I asked the AER by letter on Jan. 23, 2025 what the procedure is for issuance of pipeline licences after a rare "hearing on application" (no licences issued).

The AER promised to reply but has not done so.

Absolutely fascinated, thrilled, but somewhat confused by the fact Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) Decision Report 2025 ABAER 006 (Northback Grassy Mountain Coal Exploration) includes draft permits and licences.

AER Proceeding 444.

There are other ways to allow Alberta oil and gas producers to dump their unfunded liabilities onto landowners, municipal governments and ultimately 🫵you🫵 besides giving them money.

A tricky Mature Asset Strategy report, the result of unbalanced consultation and secrecy, is full of such ways.
April 4, 2025 at 1:25 PM
It’s a massive complex file. Most of it is failed attempt after failed attempt to create a sour gas emergency response plan to AER requirements for the urban Edmonton area. They never did do so. In fact they didn’t put the flawed, approved plan in the file. I got it years later from EPCOR. 1/2

Mr. William Heidecker, President of the Alberta Surface Rights Federation, released this statement today on the semi-secret Mature Asset Strategy report/“consultation” overseen by advisor to Premier and Alberta Energy Regulator board member Mr. David Yager.

As a participant, he was not impressed.

For decades Alberta's orphan fund (industry $) has protected citizens from bearing closure costs of bankrupt oil and gas company orphan wells.

The fund has come under attack from David Yager's "Mature Asset Strategy".

Now WE must protect the orphan fund (or pay out $billions)!
