How utterly depressing. "Absoutely buzzing"... really? Dublin is somewhere you go to meet real, genuine people. It's not the uncanny valley, and Dubliners' voices are generally in sync with their mouths (even after a long night on Temble Bar). Use real people, please.

"That problem did in fact go away, and they did turn playable - until halfway through when the tape got closer to the center of the reel." - this is why metal "NAB" spools are best for this. You may have problems with small-centre, small plastic reels. And don't overheat them - plastic melts.

Allow to cool for same duration as baking. Copy as soon as you can as the tapes will re-deteriorate quickly. This is all for "sticky shed" or squealing tapes. The thing with the binding coming off and the oxide flaking and sticking to the adjoining layer is another issue and not easy solved.
