While pollution and the greenhouse effect kill off life on Earth, tech-bros plot to save themselves. Ben Elton’s brilliant autobiography sent me back to this, his first novel from 1989, and it’s eerily prescient.

A mere 26 years after their last album, this legendary lost beast by Cardiacs has now bounded into the world, lovingly completed by main songwriter Tim Smith’s friends and family. And it’s about the most startling and joyous 80 minutes of music you could ever wish to tickle your tympanic cavity.

Astonishing scenes at the launch of Cardiacs’ new ‘long-player’ in London yesterday. My head wasn’t big enough to contain all the massive tunes I was hearing. How Tim Smith managed to compose them is nothing short of miraculous.
