There's a saying: Over time, computer hardware gets smaller, faster and cheaper, while computer software gets bigger, slower and more expensive. Recently software has been winning the bloat battle. There's a reason "enshitification" has become a hot new buzzword. ☹️

Ages ago I put out a great-looking newsletter on Windows 3.0, using a PageMaker app that was written for Windows 2 with black-and-white icons. Worked great, slick and crazy fast. Thed Micosoft bought it and started "improving" it and it got bloatier and buggier and slower than molasses. Sigh.
