I bought the single when it came out, but never really thought about the album. Your piece has inspired me to find a copy. Quite expensive now, thick end of £20.

The illustration is credited to two artists. How did that work? Did one do do the sky, the other the foreground? How did they avoid getting in each other's way?

The same thought about reproducing the paintings occurred to me. Perhaps the illustrators painted in a way that made the images easy to reproduce?

Ladybird did use photos in some books, but they didn't look as good as the painted illustrations. Maybe the technology for printing photos just wasn't very good back then.

About half of those reels look like the chunky ones for button thread, which I seem to remember we only ever had one of. So unless your parents ran a haberdashery, you would have been out of luck.

I Googled Cuisenaire rods, and they went from 1 to 10. I thought I may have been mistaken about thinking the rods I used at school went up to 12, but it seems that Seton Pollock came up with Colour Factor rods which went from 1 to 12.
