Liverpool’s rarely remembered The 25th of May, agit-prop white rap indie dance sorts tackling the fierce authoritarian ogre that was … John Major. This was released in 1991, a few months after the fall of Thatcher.

Another of my wife’s records. 18 Wheeler 12-inch ‘The Hours and the Times’. They passed me by in the 90s, but she rated them.

Next to be plucked from the shelf (I’m doing this in order, from left to right) is Ultra Vivid Scene’s ‘Joy: 1967 - 1990’. This one had a note from 4AD press officer Debs, reminding me of her new telephone number, and a promo pic of Kurt Ralske by Kevin Westerberg.

Now I’m just working my through this shelf of records nearest to me. First one out is this 12-inch from The Untouchables, ‘Free Yourself’. I bought it when it came out in 1984. Two Tone vibes from LA.

This is a beautiful album. The session was recorded in 1979 in London, but it was only released a couple of years ago. It’s particularly special for me because my brother Rick was the recording engineer.

I thought I might peruse the vinyl collection for want of something to do these cold dark winter nights. Recent vinyl record purchase (my wife’s), The Last Dinner Party ‘’Prelude To Esctasy (Acoustics and Covers)’. A great band for our times. @thelastdinnerparty.bsky.social
