One of my favourite things about being a (former) librarian in a library that had insanely old books, was reading books with illustrations of animals that were wildly inaccurate because of the lack of knowledge (personal observation) at the time. Those were endlessly fascinating.

Agreed. I’ve worked with literally hundreds of folks with ASD diagnoses. Not a single one of them has ever done such a thing, including those who have fine motor skills issues. It’s an insult to that community to even insinuate that they do such a thing unconsciously, as if it were a regular tic.
