My task was to show that the project focuses on the browning of the lake water and examines the ephippia of Daphnia buried in the sediment. I created a silhouette of Daphnia and ephippium within the layers of sediment with the background gradient from blue to brown referencing the browning of water

Lake darkening is a global problem, and by examining the chemical composition of these ephippia from the sediment cores of the lakes, researchers can see how rapidly the browning of the lakes has occurred.

The ephippia are extracted from lake sediment cores to examine, among other things, the chemical composition, which helps to understand past conditions, elemental cycles, and darkening (browning) of the small lakes in coniferous forests.

The ephippia are tough, and Daphnia produces them towards the end of the growing season. These eggs can withstand harsher conditions and often become buried in lake sediments, where they are preserved for a very long time.

Unlike the previous karonkka presents, I drew this in Adobe Photoshop with a Wacom tablet and a pen #digitaldrawing

There is a paper with the results of the project and this illustration. The paper is published in the Fish and Fisheries journal: doi.org/10.1111/faf....

The mountain lakes have less nutrients, are more isolated, have simple food webs and fewer species. Lower latitude lakes receive more nutrients from the surrounding land and can sustain more species. The water is also impacted by surrounding bogs.#ArcticCharr #SalmonidFish #FreelanceGraphicDesigner

The aim of the project was to develop a holistic knowledge base for future research and management in today's changing local environment and global climate. My task was to visualize the differences between lakes at various altitudes and latitudes. #InfographicDesign #SciComm #GraphicDesignCommission

And I should mention just to make it clear that my task was not to design a new infographic from scratch, but to recreate the existing figure showing future biodiversity loss scenarios seen here: www.financeforbiodiversity.org/wp-content/u...

You can see silhouettes of the Saimaa ringed seal, flying squirrel, lynx, bear, wolverine, whooper swan, fox, and other animals, as well as pines, spruces, and some broadleaf trees, such as birch, linden tree, and maple tree. #biology #Ecology #GraphicDesigner #freelancer

The requirements were to show Finnish fauna and flora and use the colors of the Finnish Nature Panel brand used in the illustration. They kindly provided some of the animal silhouettes, which made my job easier, and this figure - more consistent with their brand identity. #SciComm #illustration

For comparison, the first dinosaurs appeared around 233 million years ago, and the first birds - about 150 million years ago (BTW birds are the only group of dinosaurs to survive the extinction 66 million years ago). #Triopsidae #LepidurusApus #Drawing

Why are tadpole shrimps called living fossils?
Fascinatingly, the oldest tadpole shrimp fossils are approximately 360 million years old, and their appearance has remained relatively unchanged over the past 250 million years.

My job was to help organize suitable spaces for the forkshop, introducing participants to the nature (and guiding them through the “jungle” of less-visited corners) and deep dive into the history of the fortress, and of course - documenting the event, so here are some photos

Project provided platform for design researchers to engage with local communities and try to rethink the urban environment and sustainable future, focusing on more-than-human spaces in Daugavpils Fortress and the city
