Ask me about Kamen Rider!!
I think that people tend to forget that Nat20 is RAW not an auto success on skill checks specifically, and it leads to some really obnoxious gameplay if it is.

That said, it has made players getting a Nat20, but telling them that they still fail *very* compelling in PF2E >:3c

GM promised he'd give me 2 whole heropoints if I run out in the dungeon, because he's never actually had a player track their ammo. I'm holding him to it 🤔

I don't frankly get why players don't care to keep track of their supplies, but I think I might be a bit crazy. My current Gunslinger is around like 16 bullets left on the first floor of the dungeon, and the town we just left was too backwoods to have any. I'm sweating over it! Which is cool! X3

How in the hell does one think they're going to put up a booth with AI at *DRAGONCON* of all places???

I ended up having to drop a player over that. It was really difficult to explain to him after multiple revisions for his concept (of deescalating complexity) that he wasn't really operating in a way that matched either the character he wanted to play, or what the system would reward him for.

It gets *really* frustrating in combat when they're playing really cool classes, and don't want to do anything besides attack or move. Grab dudes! Swing from the ropes! Pick shit up and throw it! You're pirates!! Aaahh!!!!

I love them to death, I just need them to play more informed and active X3

I have a bunch of players at my table who are *very* casual compared to the game we're playing (Of course it's PF2) and I feel like they end up not doing very much, especially during social encounters, because they have no idea what it is they can do, and how to engage with the systems they're using

I felt this happen the exact moment I turned 30, and the worst part is I've only gotten subbier since then.

My hot take: There should be more RPGs that encourage adventurers to be more thoughtful about their preparations and the items they're carrying.
It's a lot of bookkeeping on the players part, but I think that if these games wanna lean more towards simulation roleplay, they should just go all in!

I have not once seen a single RPG balance poisons well outside of making them a character/class ability. It's such a pain in these older systems because you see them rly wanting players to use them, but the devs know if they're too powerful or too easy to access they become neccessary for martials.

At some point when you get good at enough games, or very fluent in one kind of game, it becomes way easier to understand all of the others.

It helps that PF2E is also a d20 system. The *big* difference between it and 5E is that you don't have to wing everything, and that is weird coming from 5E.

Here, I'll make up for it by making you my first follow X3c

Correct!

At that point it would probobly be best to find a different game, cause it's quite core to the games thematic and mechanical conceit. I've seen folks bring up Worlds in Peril as an alternative but YMMV.
September 1, 2025 at 2:49 AM
Not really? Core mechanics revolve around the characters being neophyte superheroes, and eventually coming to a massive change that gives them new power but fundamentally alters their lives.

It is certainly *possible* to do that as an adult character if you frame it correctly, but it's sketchy.

Audio mix specifically for listening and not watching*
I'm not even sure how I flubbed that up. In the middle of a sesh myself X3

I'm actually very fond of Worlds Beyond Number for exactly this reason. They audio mix specifically for table play, include a lot of music and sounds to make it feel more in the moment and dynamic, and are extraordinarily descriptive. It sounds a lot more like a radio play than a chaotic table.
