My gimmick opinions. though i guess its less gimmicky if they keep it around.. i was just trying to think of the gens Defining Trait... gimmicks were more obvious after gen 5
gen 1: its gen 1 gen 2's "New Pokemon types, Gender, Held Items": awesome! adding onto an already good formula! retrofitting new types to old pokemon was a good touch gen 3's "Double Battles, Pokemon Abilities & Pokemon Contests": excellent!!! a whole new layer of strategy is involved now. very fun. this is the most innovative gen and the best in the legacy line imo gen 4's "Physical / Special split, new Evolutions / babies of old Pokemon: the split was so, so important to the metagame its crazay. i actively hated the evos for the old mons in this gen as a kid and i really dont know why. this was the first online gen..! i spent 700 hours in diamond alone... gen 5's "Hidden Abilities, Triple/Rotation Battles, Dream World: dream world was niche. i did actually play with it briefly when it existed... but i dont remember it well because i didnt care much this is the worst gimmick of all because its 100% inaccessible now. it was like Flash Games for pokemon otherwise. meh... triple and rotation battles were Not very fun. turns into too many variables instead of something reasonable to plan around like doubles ... and it didnt catch on. HAs are Fun gen 6's "Mega Evolution": and if i said i hated this when it came out then what would you do................ i hate it much less now that i understand megas are a gimmick and not a forever thing in the hames going forward had me very negative about it. now im like YES give me MORE FREE DESIGNS because i dont care gen 7's "Alternate Pokemon Forms & Z-moves & Things-That-Aren't-Pokemon-But-Are": alolan forms mmmmMORE FREE DESIGNS OF POKEMON I LIKE!!! oh my godddd i loved how they tied the unique biology of alolan pokemon to its locationnnnn. i like it in other games too like the paradox pokemon and shit like pikaclones too. I LIKE. WHEN THINGS ARE ALMOST OTHER THINGS. do you understand. i like the idea of Ultra Beasts and how they somehow dont count as pokemon. i just cant wrap my head around it yet. the z-moves were a joke and clearly to sell toys and were anime tie ins and whatever and i just try to start ignoring that when i notice it-- gen 8's "Dynamax Pokemon, 'Pokemon Legends' series": huge W for macro fans. its megas but Massive. so on a conceptual level this is a boring gimmick because its almost like megas again... the legends series technically started here which may be my favourite direction pokemon has ever taken so im excited to see what happens next gen 9's "Terastallization": i really hate it. it looks cheesy. it over complicates things. it looks bad. its just a hat and jewel texture. not even a different form. 0/10. i hate scarvio and i cant wait for it to not be this gen Anymore!!!!!!!! gen 10: I HOPE IT HAS ALIENS

my pokemon gen opinions
gen 1: bad but it was just setting up the Basic Formula gen 2: fun. very good game for the gbc gen 3: excellent. emerald has insane amounts of replayability. frig is the best kanto experience out of all the options if you want to hang out with team rocket. this gen had really ugly sprites to me:/ frg's overworld sprites are so ugly to me and i dont understand why gen 4: this is a really good one, but NOT pearl/ diamond, just platinum. hgss is the best johto experience possible. its very slow in the modern day, but DS warriors endured. this was the first gen with wifi battles, which were also slow. gen 5: THE BEST. i wish i could grind this gen into a fine powder and snort it directly into my BRAIN. i Loved this gen... the Ul and the entire new line of pokemon with no old ones??? AWESOME. the SUBWAY MASTERS????? AAAAA the graphics are reallyyyy not holding up as i get older though. i have never loved a pokemon game as i did black and white and then bw2 for the nintendo ds in the 2010s. gen 6: i didnt like the transition to 3d: its true...where are my sprites :(XY were bad because the story was dull and the overworld was uglyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. i didn't care much for the designs either gen 7: i LOVEEEE ALOLA rotom dex is my best friend. i dont care if the cutscenes are long, this is a role playing game and rotom dex is my friend. sun and moon went so hard. i wish everyone involved in making usum would explode because it was the worst retcon for a villain ever created gen 8: sword and shield were ok. the open world areas were slightly ass but workable. the story was fine. the fucksjng swordbert thing is so stupid. i am resentful it introduced zamazenta into this world, but at the same time gen 5 was my fav and it introduced landorus, so what can you do. legends arceus was such an amazing incredible game it pisses me off this is considered a Side Game. gen 9: hate it. scarlet and violet are so bad gameplay wise (not even just performance wise, i just dont think aimless open world works for this sort of linear story). they are the first pokemon games i didnt actually finish... However: legends za is the most fun ive had playing pokemon in AGES. gen 10: omnitrix

i plugged in my SSD backup of Old Files to look for my old animal crossing mod pictures and instead im in a folder from High School (2009) and being killed by the passage of time. LOOK HOW CUTE OLD ITUNES UI USED TO BE???
