Having a difficult time deciding on the top five films I want to watch soon, giving it my undivided attention with the phone in the next room.

So far, thinking (in no particular order):

— Interstellar

— Vertigo

— Eternal Sunshine

— Eraserhead

— The Irishman

My goal of watching one movie everyday is off to a solid start.

Easiest way to make this work:

— choose a 90-minute movie, preferably light-hearted.

— watch during each of my three meals that day.

Watching “Weapons” a second time, I don’t think it’s my second-favorite movie of 2025 any more, behind “One Battle After Another.” At least from a rewatchability standpoint. That’s “Marty Supreme” now.

Weapons is probably the best “scary” movie this century, so far. A low bar, I know.

“Midnight in Paris” — yes, I know Woody Allen sucks — is not what I was expecting. A bad start to my one-movie-a-day goal that will certainly fall apart around the same time that my daily gym ambitions fall apart.

Could do without Owen Wilson playing Owen Wilson in 1920s Paris.

Saw "Eyes Wide Shut" for the first time last night -- in a theater, at that.

Phone down the whole time. Didn't disappoint. Looks great. Sounds great. Timely given the Epstein mess right now. Rewatching it very soon; still have plenty of questions. Eager to compare it to the new Criterion edition.

Came away from Christopher Nolan's Odyssey trailer (and six-minute IMAX prologue) thinking the same thing I did when I first saw Victor Wembanyama in his US debut vs. G League Ignite: this is amazing; this has top 10 potential; this has GOAT potential; I can't wait until I see this a year from now.

I don't think this is a hot take: IMAX looks great, yes. But after a while, especially if the movie's good, I can't really tell how good the picture is. If I'm engaged enough, I won't even be able to tell if I'm in the center of the last row or off to the edges of the middle rows.

My friends: "What's Substack?"

Me: "It's OnlyFans ... but for writers."

I can't tell if Amazon is trying to make the Prime Video experience on Apple TV so bad that people will go out and buy a Fire TV (doubtful). Or if Apple is intentionally making it horrible. It's so clunky. It's the only Apple TV app that doesn't feel like it was built, or has adjusted, for Apple TV.

Love that the volume comes almost all the way down on the AirPod Pro 3s when you start talking ... except for when I'm singing along to whatever I'm listening to. Never realized how much I did that. For the next update, it should keep the volume at the same level if you're singing along.

$15 concert ticket? Cool

“This show features all-in pricing, which includes taxes, convenience charges and fees, so there’s no surprises.” Cool

$15 show comes out to … $36.47.

How did the hell did we get there?

One of the more surprising things about sitting in a waiting room is seeing how many times people let a video loop. Like, did you not pick up this 10-second skit the first seven times it played?

I could get a Taco Bell at-home taco kit, Chick-fil-A sauce and Texas Roadhouse rolls at my local supermarket, but Wingstop won't bottle and sell its ranch? What gives?

There's no bigger show of complacency than keeping the license plate frame that the car dealership provided.

We have to stop with these emails with temporary passcodes to log onto our accounts, even before asking for a password. What's this about? This is my Wingstop account. It's not that serious, and my credit card isn't linked to my account. So stop it. Now I have more emails to delete.

Saw “Weapons” in IMAX with Laser because of the noticeably sharper image. Well worth it. I’ve largely ignored the horror genre because it doesn’t feel as if any of them are serious movies or very well done. But Weapons has to be the best horror movie of this decade. Must watch with a crowd.

Even with a 37% Rotten Tomato rating, I found “Coneheads” (1993) to be much more enjoyable than, say, “Dazed and Confused,” which came out the same year and was much better regarded (94% RT rating).

I generally won’t watch anything lower than a 70%, unless it was made prior to the early 2000s.

I find that so much of my daily audio/video consumption is news podcasts and occasionally sports. A little tech news here and there, too. No matter how much I tried scaling back news, it's a huge part of consumption.

Funny how music works. Never really liked the song from the opening credits of The Sopranos, and out of nowhere I loved it. Obviously because of the association with the show.

Same with Shohei Ohtani's walk-up song (Michael Bublé's "Feeling Good"), after disliking it for more than a year.

Haven’t heard every rap album this year, but I have to imagine Clipse is winning the Grammy for best rap album (unless Kendrick’s GNX is still eligible).

One of the last remaining people using a Yahoo email account. It's the second-oldest email account I've had, and it's used primarily as a log-in for anything that isn't a professional account. Since Yahoo does a terrible job sorting through the mess, I have to come up with a Gmail for misc emails.

Even though I told myself I wouldn’t, I’ve been paying for two music subscriptions for years — Spotify (2013) and Apple Music (‘15) — and yet I still can’t choose one.

Spotify is playlist heavy, and that’s fine.

On Apple Music, it’s much easier to find and discover albums.

The couple of times a year the Dodgers play early afternoon during the week, it’s actually never any good. The game winds up being such a bore.

Conservatives on Twitter told me last week that the left was fabricating any tension between Musk and Trump. That they were actually BFFs and that this was all a hoax.
