- The ship–port interface is a key focus for early progress

- Near-term action prioritises operational & technical efficiency, such as shore power, digital tools, energy-optimised operations and retrofits

- Large-scale transitions to alternative fuels are generally treated as a longer-term pathway

At Marine Zero, this aligns closely with our view that effective decarbonisation starts with understanding how vessels actually operate - and how that translates into energy demand.

This is where MAP delivers value. By fusing AIS vessel movement data with energy modelling and operational context, MAP helps port authorities, planners, operators, and regulators to:

✅ Analyse AIS-derived vessel traffic and dwell times
✅ Estimate real-time and forecasted energy demands at berth
February 5, 2026 at 12:29 PM
✅ Model grid impact scenarios and infrastructure requirements
✅ Monitor emissions-related performance
✅ Integrate with onboard systems for real-time insights

If you’re planning port electrification or fleet transition, MAP provides the evidence base you need to move from ambition to implementation.

Our MD, @timmunn.bsky.social, presented: “Where Do We Begin? Data-Driven Pathways to Maritime Decarbonisation”.

Tim’s session demonstrated how Marine Zero’s Maritime Analytics Platform (MAP) is helping maritime operators transform complex operational data into actionable, investment-ready plans.
January 30, 2026 at 2:42 PM
It was a pleasure to share the stage with Simon Eardley and Paul Tallon from Mersey Maritime, and with Alex Naughton MTCP MRTPI MTPS MILT from the @lpoolcityregion.bsky.social, who each outlined key innovation and investment priorities for the maritime sector in the North West.

Many operators, planners, and policymakers want to accelerate the transition - but face tough questions:

• What will it cost?
• How much infrastructure is really needed?
• Will today’s solution still work in ten+ years?

That uncertainty often leads to delayed decisions and missed opportunities.

At an upcoming workshop hosted by @ljmuofficial.bsky.social, our Managing Director @timmunn.bsky.social will present how Marine Zero’s Marine Analytics Platform (MAP) brings clarity to complex choices - by transforming operational data into actionable, evidence-based decarbonisation strategies.

Drawing on insights from the Electric Thames project, Tim’s session will explore how MAP supports:

• Smarter infrastructure and grid planning
• Scalable electrification of vessels and fleets
• Better alignment across commercial, public, and policy stakeholders

Thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey this year. We hope the festive break brings you joy, rest, and precious time with your loved ones. We're looking forward to 2026 and to continuing our work together, with some very exciting developments to share in the New Year.

With 2026 ahead – and the progression of so many projects Andy led and championed, from Cornwall to the Caribbean via the Thames – we're moving forward with the integrity, purpose, and determination he embodied, continuing the work he cared so deeply about.
December 22, 2025 at 2:07 PM
As the year draws to a close, we're holding space to reflect – both to remember Andy and grieve his loss, but also to give thanks for everything he brought into our lives.
December 22, 2025 at 2:07 PM
We’re also acknowledging a profoundly difficult challenge we faced, because 2025 will always be the year we lost our friend and colleague Andy Hurley MNI. Our co-founding director passed away suddenly in July, and his absence has been felt deeply by every member of the team.

Such detailed insight is essential for building an accurate and reliable decarbonisation model.

At Marine Zero, we don't guess when it comes to decarbonisation. Every recommendation we make and every innovation we deploy, is grounded in real operational data and proven engineering.

The team installed and activated GSM modems that continuously transmit operational data - including time, date, position and performance metrics. This data stream is vital allowing us to correlate vessel energy use with tidal conditions, river currents, wind, temperature and environmental factors.

This week, we've completed a series of critical installation and commissioning tasks on the Lynher II ferry. These included configuring systems that enable real-time monitoring of power and energy consumption for each generator and propulsion motor.
