it's tempting to blame this entirely on Fox and its cancerous outgrowths. but, in truth, the ratio of white americans who reliably vote against pluralistic democracy has been roughly the same since the GOP took the pro-aparthied stance in the 60s.

there is a severe breakdown of the information environment in this country. more than half of the white population lives in a fantasy land wherein they're being subjugated at all times by an international conspiracy of every other demographic.

like, it does us no good. in fact it does a lot of harm, to ignore that when we talk about the failures of the US democracy to defend itself from autocracy we're talking about just over half of all white Americans voting *against democracy* every single time.

but the fact that this *is* the confederate remnant. the fact that it *is* an explicitly white supremacist movement, is why it's so important to point out that a lot of this shit has been obvious to a lot of non-white people the whole time.

this media environment is how the confederate remnant has perpetuated itself under the nose of the "average voter".

anti-Black policies jump out to my older brother, cause he's a Black man. none of these are obvious to our mother's current husband because he's a cishet white man in his sixties. all the media designed for him is carefully constructed to protect him from seeing any of that harm.

we're not in disagreement, friend. I'm simply expanding on the specifics of the issue. the deliberate malinforming of the population at large is what I'm getting at. that's *how marginalization works*. anti-trans or anti-indigenous policy is very noticeble to me, an indigenous trans person.

this isn't quiet, it's collusion. you're right, it's been a long game, and a lot of the Dems are playing it too. a century and a half of yt voters refusing to see or acknowledge any of this is how we've gotten here.

Clinton signed the crime bill, which was explicitly a response to anti-police brutality movements that had arisen in reaction to the brutalizing of Rodney King. three decades later a full fifth of Black men have been denied their voting rights

like, that wasn't "quiet" to us. it was ignored by yt liberals, many of whom co-signed so-called "tough on crime" policies that deliberately destabilized Black and brown communities, but we couldn't ignore it because it was happening *to us*.

okay, but the point I'm trying to make is that the marginalized communities disenfranchised by their constant efforts to legislatively reestablish their theocratic slave state have never experienced those efforts as "quiet".

what's frustrating to me is, they've never for one second been remotely private about their plans. they've been saying "we think the wrong side won the civil war" loudly and with their entire chests since the civil war ended.

Key secessionists have been planning this since 1865. The myth of the lost cause has been allowed to propagate in the South mostly unchecked, and backed by old money.

This was always their playbook:

If you can't win, change the rules. If you still can't win, ignore them.

just don't half-ass it like last time.

obviously you know this, but I'm going insane so I'm going to say it anyway. this is the confederacy resurgent and anyone not engaging with it in those terms is being willfully ignorant.

Or, perhaps, the US could try leaving the citizens of other nations alone for once in its history.
