Almost into 2026! Are you making resolutions? Ready for gardening? Me, too!

Just 3 sleeps till Christmas Eve. How are you making out? Are you all finished your shopping? Baking? Wrapping? Decorating? All the things? I'm pretty excited as my son and dil are coming for the holidays. Though we chat weekly, I can hardly wait to have them here in person. This afternoon is gift wrapping time for us. The shopping is done (whew) and the last of the baking is underway as I write.

Each Sunday, after I send off the Ramblings post, I think... well, there simply cannot be much to share next week. I mean, we are in winter mode, after all. And yet... each week, she seems to come together with so much that I want to share, need to share.

The leaves have all fallen, flowers have faded, and it’s just about time to start preparing for Christmas… I have been working on the garland and wreath for outside. Gathering boughs and flowers from the yard. My wreath and the window box greens will be made from 'real stuff', while the garland around the front porch is a nice, long pre-lit faux one that will last us for many, many years.

Yard Tasks Lawns - in mid to late August, you want to start doing lawn touch-ups. Re-seeding and/or sodding. Divide perennials like peonies and daylilies. Be careful to not plant your peonies too deeply, or they will pout and fail to bloom. Do not feed peonies with manure, compost only. Stop deadheading dahlias, zinnias, and cosmos. Allow some of the flowers to die back thoroughly so that you can save the seeds for next year.

It's the month of August, the time when you want to put in your bulb orders to avoid sold outs.
