these people could've been killed by the nazis shortly after or could've been nazis themselves. i look at these photographs reflecting on my own family history but also my current surroundings. anyways, i never felt this close to people who lived during WW2 times

some people saw a resemblance and thought these were photos of my actual grandmother. she might as well be. there's a complicated history in most families when it comes to national socialism. looking back it's often hard to distinguish between aggressor and victim and even these terms are ambiguous

on the back of one of them it states the adress of the photo studio. it's adolf-hitler-platz in what is now the czech republic. an area that was brutally taken by the nazis and also where one of my grandmothers fled from as a child with her family. the pictures are dated from around the same time.

some of them are what i assume self portraits of the photographer but most are of this woman in different outfits in the studio & outside. maybe his partner, maybe a muse
