I spoke about No Such Thing as Normal @conwayhall.bsky.social yesterday. With thoughtful questions from people affected by mental health issues, as well as mental health professionals, it was motivating to connect with people over a shared aspiration for better mental healthcare.

If you can agree that suicide, in and of itself, isn't always the result of insanity, by definition. We want her to have had agency. We want to believe that her choice was rational, given the insurmountable barriers being placed in her path, the value, or lack of it, that society seems to place on trans existence. This idea that Alice got what she wanted, comforts us at first, but our grief deludes us. Death is an escape, that is all.
