I needed a new pinned post! I'm a PhD student researching Sunderland's working class identity (human geography/history). And away from that I'm a writer (history, film, place, culture etc), photographer (documentary & landscape) and documentary producer.

Would you mind if I gave my zines a little push again? Hopefully the first batch(es) have reached owners now. Maybe a good Christmas gift for someone who likes photography 👀.

Gender critical ideology has always been misogyny wrapped up in slightly different packaging.
Kathleen Stock has written an article against "abortion permissiveness". She claims abortion requires "justification" saying the state should limit "unacceptable decision-making" by women about their own bodies.

This is who anti-trans activists proclaim as the feminist thought leaders of our time.

Previously, these belief systems tended to collapse under their own weight. Contradictions and memory gaps made them hard to sustain. Now the AI removes that friction, it produces timelines, summaries, and "forensic" explanations on demand.

If you've not had a flu jab then you might want to get one if you can, they're saying flu season has started early and is shaping up to be a particularly nasty one. Reminder that you can get one from Superdrug for about £10 with their (free) loyalty card.

I remember we made the decision to stop seeing people the week before official lockdown. I tried (and failed) to convince my family to do the same. They ALL caught a nasty dose of Covid by mixing together. We thankfully avoided it.

The government failed, and the cost was incredibly high for many.
BREAKING: The UK’s response to Covid was “too little, too late”, a damning official report on the handling of the pandemic has concluded, saying the introduction of a lockdown even a week earlier than happened could have saved more than 20,000 lives.

Looking at the north east in the English indices of deprivation stats and (like much of the post-industrial north) its neighbourhoods are largely deprived. Now look at what Durham County Council (where I live) are planning to do to save money. Taking a hatchet to already strained services 1/2

The richest man in the world and the biggest loser in the world are the same person. Makes me wonder how many of the other billionaires who are shitting all over the planet are equally stupid and cringey.

It's lunacy that these fools have been allowed to seize so much influence.

Sounds click-baity but is more of a thought experiment as I'm curious. If there was a 'turn off (gen) AI' button that you could hit and it applied to EVERYTHING, not just slop (though mostly slop), so you'd lose access to Chat GPT etc & it was irreversible, would you do it?

I would in a heartbeat.

I've booked me and The Man something I hope will be fun and not kill me(!) for New Year. It's been such a terrible couple of years in so many ways I feel like I (we) need to see it in in a hopeful way. Just praying I won't be too ill or immobile to do it.

🤨 not sure 'hope nobody notices and he dies' (Jimmy Savile) or 'take a title off him and hope that's enough' (Andrew) is aspirational tbh.
