I research a mid-19th century, Irish graveyard in Boston. Most burials were for children measles, diphtheria, malnutrition, dysentery, cholera. Infant mortality rate was 20%, children <5 yrs. 62%. In one case, an entire family died within a week due to cholera from contaminated water.

I think they should convert the conferences to Zoom, for the safety of all participants. Flying, mingling with thousands during possible epidemics (remember the 2020 Biogen conference?), & an out-of-control administration makes attending in person risky.

Working on a lecture about a 17th century true crime incident in Watertown & Dedham, Mass. Repercussions led in part to King Philip’s War.

That was for the NEHGS sesquicentennial conference at the Weston! We could only vaguely predict the changes in genealogical research then. So much has changed, e.g., online research of digitized records, DNA, genealogists helping police solve cold case crimes, etc.

I saw grackles for the first time today. They are migratory & one of the first signs of spring.
