At the US Capitol tonight folks gathered at 2 AM in the rain to tell Congress to protect Medicaid & SNAP. A person holds a sign saying “If you were doing the right thing you’d do it during the day.” Another person’s shirt reads “Our Healthcare. Our jobs. Our Communities.” It’s all on the line.

More than ten hours on the National Mall holding vigil and listening to stories of people who benefit from Medicaid, and I’ve got two words for you: Protect Medicaid. #ProtectMedicaid #CareCantWait

Today would have been Judith Heumann’s 76th birthday. Although every ounce of my being says that she should still be here with us celebrating, I’m trying to focus my energy on being grateful we had her with us for more than 75 years, and that I knew her for more than a decade of that.

There’s a mass commitment ceremony now on the National Mall to protest marriage penalties disabled people face when we rely on public benefits. I can’t be there, so to support the demonstration, I thought I’d share one of my favorite wedding photos. #DisabledLoveIsBeautiful

Today is the first day of National Disability Voting Rights Week. I checked my voter registration, and I am registered at my current address, which is great b/c previously I’ve been removed from voter rolls & been registered at the wrong address.

This is my dad and me. We are both smiling because he was 10 days post life-saving liver transplant and recovering beautifully. I’ve been with him for weeks as he continues to recover. He is now three weeks post-transplant doing great, & I am deeply deeply grateful to his donor, who we don’t know.
