People favor their “own group” (natives)— unless they learn their beliefs about the incidence of poverty among Italians are wrong.

Redistributive preferences are mostly inelastic to new info.
But when people learn that fewer natives are poor than they thought, they're less likely to exclude immigrants from welfare benefits.
