I may not know all details about Iceland's politics but it's comforting to hear Halla not only advocates for feminist values, an updated version of capitalism and bolder climate actions but still gets elected by the people. This story may be a drop in the ocean but, for me, it is a drop of hope.(6/6

After finishing the chapter, I searched about Halla and realized that she was elected this year, 2024, for president in Iceland. On a rather hopeless day, like yesterday, when another incompetent and overconfident man was elected, it was refreshing to hear about this story. (5/6)

Story short: she ended up running for president that year and despite having only 1% of support one month and a half before the election, she ended up in second place with 28% of support. (4/6)

She later started receiving petitions to be a candidate for president of Iceland in 2016 but, at first, she disregarded her experience and felt less confident about running for president. (3/5)

To exemplify this effect, Adam Grant told the story of Halla Tómasdóttir, a competent person, who successfully managed and led an investment firm, with principle-based and gender-balanced leadership. The firm was one of the few to survive in the financial crisis of 2008, in Iceland. (2/5)
