A good world is possible with better mathematics. Let's make some together.

TIL that architects have their own term for "hyperbolic." We (math) hit these communication walls with many fields. “Anticlastic surfaces are double-curved surfaces which have principal curvatures on opposite sides of the surface.” #iTeachMath #MathSky #MathMakers bamboou.com/building-of-...

Here's the pentagon sequel.

#FibonacciDay 11/23 is coming! Do you know a way to show or explain, like you would to a five-year-old, that this construction (starting from the Vesica Piscis twin circles) is indeed Golden, and so it helps us make Very Good Pentagons? #iTeachMath #MathSky

That one did better, though I like 4o better for my flow. It keeps the context stable for a bit longer.

I tried again right now. I wonder why the backgrounds and arrays are so consistent. I started a new thread with this prompt at the top.

An idea: Start by sharing your research topic with a five-year-old.

Can we welcome children and their families? The obvious reason: we need the next generation of math. A deeper reason: young kids are amazing sources of math connections and creativity, since their thinking is very divergent.

AIs can deal with formal math represented in formulas (that is, the math language), though never 100% reliably. They are spectacularly bad at any transfer between representations, such as writing a realistic scenario that models a formula or creating an image with a given number of objects.

"Modultown" will be out soon and then it will all make sense! 👍

I discovered a new prime! 🙃

I thought this was a thread and now it is!

Ouch. How about this: make our own, together. We can crowdfund our specialists. The wealthy can help with making and funding like everyone else if it's still one maker or funder, one voice. (Usually, I'm about making math together, and art is a part of it.)

AI and the commons. If we can't edit the code, do we even HAVE it?
- Pls fix the colors in your math app to match our other tools. Keep the rest as-is.
- I can't: ChatGPT wrote it.

Update: the creature is amazing, and will definitely go into my slide show next time I present either on fractals or on star polygons. Source: www.wired.com/2015/07/absu... A slide show for a math circle on star polygons from last week: docs.google.com/presentation...

It's incapable of visual math at the moment.

And the AI costs significantly more than a quarter in this timeline.

That's not how the authors meant it, but these gears? An awesome visualization of the "pick any two" concept! "Good, fast, cheap: pick any two, or the gears stay stuck."

"Efficiency and Ease."

I will try a new prompt for each math chapter, and see if that propels students to actually read. I love to read poetry on small boats, in particular. Without a goat, though.

The contemporary BookOfFaces can't even make geometric photo-collages like they used to make back in Victorian times!
