Can't speak too highly of this book. Amazing scholarship, intelligibly presented, fascinating mix of poetry, political ad intellectual history, amazing array of characters ....

Following the Piero Baptism, I've only seen this painting once but it made a similar impression on me; calm, serenity, the tranquil magnetism of the figure of Christ, the feeling of the world standing still while something momentous happens.

Following the Piero Baptism, I've only seen this painting once but it made a similar impression on me; calm, serenity, the tranquil magnetism of the figure of Christ, the feeling of the world standing still while something momentous happens.

Looks quite impressive, though. Ours is 2200m, highest peak in northern Appennines.
