i don't mind dressy at all but you need, imho, a bit of drape for a db and putting gilt buttons just looks try too hard military greatcoat, i had a laurence corner greatcoat for 20 years till it fell apart, it swished.

double breasted can look good but the three examples there are just so "stiff", no flow, no comfort - and the outfit on 4 is fine, it's the outfit of someone who doesn't have a stylist.

simplified construction was exactly the phrase i was looking for. 1,2 and 3 are too tricksy. 4 has an elegant yet casual line.
