Absolutely delighted to be invited to the portrait unveiling of Monica McWilliams at the Great Hall in Queen’s University. Well deserved tributes to Monica’s decades of campaigning for women & her peacebuilding work with the Women’s Coalition & after. Brilliant to see so many activist women again.

At Murlough Bay yesterday to attend the 109th anniversary of the execution of Roger Casement, humanitarian and Irish patriot. His last wish was to be buried here and de Valera agreed, but his remains lie in Glasnevin cemetery. A campaign to re-bury Casement is active. I’m proud to give my support.

Grateful to the wonderful Feile an Phobail for the invitation to speak on Rebel Women of Belfast. A great audience, including relatives of some of the women. Past and present are very close & opportunities to talk about the difficulties of the past so important.

Fintan Ward Hillyard. 5 August 1985 - 16 December 2014. It would have been your 40th birthday today, beautiful man. “Time does not bring relief…I miss him in the weeping of the rain; I want him in the shrinking of the tide.” (Edna St Vincent Millay)

On the way to the shops with my grandsons. May they always love and support each other. I’m very conscious of all the children unable to do such a simple thing as they face the horrors of war & genocide.

Great to be returning to our wonderful Feile in August - hope to see some of you at 1pm on the 8th when I’ll be talking about some amazing Belfast women.

Escorting Danish friends around Crumlin Road Gaol today. History of suffragettes in the jail woefully inaccurate, wish they had consulted historians, but good to see Rebel Women in the bookshop @btpbooks.bsky.social

I learned a lot, attending launch of this report on the need for proper educational facilities for 16+ asylum & refugee young people. Many spoke of their experiences & frustrations. We are lucky to have them in our community & NI Executive needs to read this report & provide the necessary support

Thank you to the Michael Davitt museum for the invitation to come and speak. I enjoyed the evening and it was brilliant to have several members of my Mayo family present in the audience.

Unbelievably powerful & emotional evening watching the life of Gerry Conlon vividly performed by the incredible talent of Shaun Blaney. The fight for the truth continues. Another legacy of the conflict.

On a short visit to Dublin it was a thrill to be in front of Maud Gonne’s house, v historic as scene of the ‘Battle of Coulson Ave’, when she initiated protest against 1903 King’s visit. Helena Molony joined Inghinidhe na hEireann that day, testimony in BMH WS.
