The Prokudin-Gorskii collection really is endlessly fascinating. One of my favorites here, depicting a “former factory foreman. In service 55 years, from [18]72. Had the good fortune to offer bread and salt” to Tsar Nicholas II (www.loc.gov/resource/ppe...)

People always think that you need to reinvent the wheel but this whole Speaker of the House issue was already solved in the Primary Chronicle like a thousand years ago…
