Hiya/Bonjoure !
I'm not usually big on disguises but this year I tried my hand at a little DIY to pay respects to an important part of my childhood. #GrimFandango

Happy #Halloween everyone!

It was my first time at @amazefest.bsky.social, and it's been great! A big thank you to all the organizers, creators and visitors.

It's so cool to see so much people gathering to share their enthusiasm, explore the medium and being generally super nice to one another.

See you next year!

Hey! If you're at @amazefest.bsky.social and you have time tomorrow (friday) afternoon, I'll be showcasing #WillTheManGetFrog at the open screens from 2 to 4pm!

But please go check out @sosowski.bsky.social's talk first. Then tell me about it. I can't attend, but I want to know what it was like.

I just dug into my archived #pico8 abandoned projects for fun and found this peculiar one.

Titled "The Butler Did It", it's just a black background, a gloomy tune and a cartoonish butler moving exceedingly slow.
It still feels like I had plans for this little guy, but what?

#WillTheManGetFrog is now in a "featured" cart in #pico8 ! ⭐

This may or may not have been a life goal of mine.

Thank you very much @lexaloffle.bsky.social!

C'était trop cool de faire un jeu en français pour la #globalgamejam ! (Rappel : marechalbanane.itch.io/shitty-bubbl...)

Ca m'a donné envie de faire ça dans mes autres jeux !
Du coup je teste des trucs.

STRAFTAT also features an ungodly amount of maps, and finds strength in its design freedom, nailing bangers that other games never dared to think of.

The result is a mountain of exciting and often hilarious content. Some maps may feel "a bit much", but that's what makes the set so great as a whole.
December 26, 2024 at 11:21 PM
Hell no!

Actions are fluid and plethoric; the sliding and wall-jumps allow you to parkour your way around the maps and the many many disposable weapons offer a wide range of ludicrous playstyles and synergies, leading to an exhilarating feeling of power, precision and expressivity.

#1: STRAFTAT by @leonardlemaitre.bsky.social, @siriuslemaitre.bsky.social

STRAFTAT ("criminal offence") is a 1v1 FPS that seemingly ran out of fucks to give a long time ago, with its low-poly models, minimum anims, and its brutalist, slavic Quake 3 / UT2000 aesthetic.

Is it unpolished though?

Speaking of which, if you're interested in in-depth talks about UFO 50 and its games, I highly recommend listening to the @eggplantshow.bsky.social.

They have a cool series where they take the games in order and focus on 1 per week. And they just released an interview of the devs, so check it out!
December 22, 2024 at 6:18 PM
I'll just say making a set of 50 games that are all that good and that produce such an original yet cohesive set is a tour de force.

I think this game is important for the medium, as much as a reflection on itself as for pushing its boundaries and paving the way. It's a fascinating object of study.

UFO 50 is colossal in content and depth, so I can't really start a serious conversation about it in this thread.

But it's a huge load of fun and surprises!

Animal Well is a joy to play.
It's not linear; you can go anywhere from the start.
It's not lazy; each puzzle has something new, and makes you feel smart, not stupid.
It's not cumbersome; the control is precise and satisfying. Just running and jumping around keeps me entertained.
It's just good!
December 20, 2024 at 10:27 PM
Animal Well is generous. The well is huge and filled to the brim with layers and layers of secrets that you will gradually learn to uncover as you dive deeper into the mechanics.

I've combed through every inch a few times, and I barely completed the first two layers, out of god knows how many.
December 20, 2024 at 10:27 PM
Animal Well is clever. On the more puzzly side of the metroidvania spectrum, its few items and power-ups all offer several different uses, synergies and interactions that connect effortlessly with the world in a natural, logical way.

"Oooooh masterclass" was a common exclamation while playing.
December 20, 2024 at 10:27 PM
Animal Well is beautiful. The dim, heavily-tinted lighting and the realistic-looking animals in an otherwise cute pixellated world conjure up an eerie atmosphere, like a lucid dream.

The discreet but highly immersive sound design and the sparse tunes only underline the well's silence and vastness.

#3: Animal Well by Billy Basso (@animalwell.bsky.social)

Being a solo dev is humbling, as the amount of skills required is crazy: dev, art, GD, music, writing, UI/UX, marketing/com, etc.

So when people manage to nail a masterpiece in that context, I can't help but stare in awe.
