Why do we keep having these journalistic events in places without freedom of speech and freedom of press? The motto starts with "Rethinking Trust" and we go to places where criticizing govt can get you in prison? @scidevnet.bsky.social

Excellent lectures at #Lino25 so far. Nobel David MacMillan, for instance, mentioned how catalysis can help us make better cancer-fighting drugs, using a field of chemistry that esentially didn't even exist a few years ago.

This feels like as good a time as any to remind people that "just following orders" was not accepted as a defense at the Nuremberg trials.

This is a real post. This is no longer just about Trump, this is someone immersed in online culture weaponizing hatred and lack of empathy. We're turning suffering into a spectacle. This is the White House now, apparently.

Yes, support in the US for solar and wind power has fallen -- to 78% and 72% respectively, according to a 2024 Pew Poll. Even among Republicans, support is over 50%. It's almost like this isn't what people want but just what some fossil fuel corporations want. (www.pewresearch.org/science/2024...).

I never understood why people thought billionaires buying newspapers is a good thing. If journalism just isn't financially sustainable anymore and needs billionaires, it's a societal tragedy. If it is and it's bought as a business, it will be used as a business. We need strong independent journalism
