Eclectic, inert, nerdish, a collection of spare parts. Niche Doctor Who references a forte. Masquerades as an academic with a political bent, tho mostly moans about how and why the current system doesn't work. Once wrote something something resilience.

Jesus. This is quite something.

Who knew Len Deighton would be quite so prescient ?

Hmmn. GMB have said they are NOT balloting - though our comms say they are (maybe we know something the GMB members don't?). I believe Unison have a policy of disaggregated ballots. And Unite haven't said they will aggregate yet. Might be some hyperbole at play here!

Can we say it out loud yet THE?

I think this a fairly lightweight article (generic overview not substantive analysis) on a serious topic.

It raises the profound question "are institutions really letting students down - or is the expectation placed on them part of the issue?" without reaching a conclusion.

All hail Mr. Ring-a-ding. Classic RTD era Love and Monsters style Doctor Who.

(Psychic Circus. Let them entertain the gods on eurovis night - that's all I'm saying ...)

We need a UCU HEC shenanigans bet-o-meter.

I'm betting HEC went with the "let's get our ducks in a row and then call a BDM and SHEC to convene a ballot" motion rather than the original December preference to "shoot ourselves in the foot now" one.

This has been recognised by some of HEC & UCU officers including the GS, who have advocated for wider consultation and strategy development involving members - the 'bank and build' faction. Others have a suspicion of changing our 'democratic' procedures and showing weakness - the Cobra Kai faction.

So this far-right Tomeh Robinson promoting jumping man-baby weirdo has seemingly just 'followed me' on bluesky.

If real? - someone is presumably paying someone else to follow accounts/automating the 'follow' process for ... reasons.

If fake? Well bravo faker.

I'm hoping it's the latter.

In pictures - my 10 films of 2024 - in no particular order (though No. 1 would be a toss up between Monster and Hundred's of Beavers!).

Finally got round to seeing Hirokazu Kore-eda's 'Monster' and it is stunning, in all respects.

Ahh. The winter solstice at Stonehenge, live streamed by English Heritage. Nice to see an event where most people are there to experience it, rather than take selfies of themselves experiencing it.

This is bizarrely compulsive. At this rate I reckon it'll hit 17.5 million by midnight.

Taken at face value I read that statement as suggesting that research like that reported in Sci Am below or statements by US government agencies like NOAA will become 'problematic' and penalised in practice under the new regime.
