The Mamdani/Trump conference at the White House is so surreal. Mamdani is like, “yes, I believe the president is a fascist and we are funding a genocide in Gaza,” and Trump’s response is like, “whatever, you know once when we start talking it turns out we have a lot in common.”

It’s quite incredible that during the Obama years Van Jones was considered the acceptable edge of liberal thought in mainstream media. Now, he is basically seen as another mediocre opportunistic centrist who jokes about dead children in Gaza.

Thanks to @cosmonautmag.bsky.social for publishing my critical review of Klein and Thompson's book "Abundance." On the policy-level, there is much to appreciate about the book, but on the level of politics, it is remarkably lacking, if not misguided.

Read the latest Substack post from Washingtonians for Public Banking on how the Trump administration is trying to reprivatize Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
“The Trump administration appears to be pursuing an initial public offering of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which could involve a 5% to 15% sale of their shares, with a combined valuation of $500 billion, potentially more…”

Well it looks like BLS showed the ADP numbers were junk and the American economy continues to grow. Interesting it is the public sector driving the growth, with state and local governments adding the jobs. States continue to be America’s quiet but most essential engine.
July 3, 2025 at 4:24 PM
It is hard to know if the jobs report is indicative of a trend, but the gap between what was predicted and the reality is not reassuring, especially when the Fed is planning to keep interest rates steady. There is a specter haunting the USA, and that specter is stagflation.

When they set out to make their power supply 100% green, Northwest leaders ignored the fact that the region lacks the wiring to deliver new sources of renewable energy to people’s homes.

I’m all for making Gaza the 51st state and bringing the Palestinian people into America’s federation of liberty. Doing so would give the people of Gaza the protection and support of US law and social programs, and would obligate the United States to defend the area the next time Israel invades.

During Trump’s first term, the refrain was that he is a dictator who wants to end democracy. The American people didn’t buy it. Now, there is talk of democracy ending through the emergence of an oligarchy, and I get the sense that people are feeling that and already experiencing some regret.
