A mural of Fürstenried castle near #Munich (at the nearby underground station), where our graduate programme on global #philology will host its academic retreat next year. I am currently in charge of planning it, hoping to make this a memorable event for our recently joined PhDs!

A rather interesting dinner location yesterday at #DVCS #Hamburg: a replica of the Yuyuan 豫園 teahouse in #Shanghai. There is a lot of talk on #Chinese replicas of European cities, but this is an example of a contemporary imitation of traditional #ChineseArchitecture! #sinology

The "Zerwirkgewölbe" (royal game butchery) in #Munich. The building is estimated to date back to the late 13th century and was used as a butchery for game from the royal hunts. It now houses some gastronomy and shops. #history #nobility #hunting #bavaria #animals

Back in my days, the whiteboard in the students' room of @lmumuenchen.bsky.social's Department for #ChineseStudies used to be scribbled not with harmless, plain Li Bo #李白! Us cheeky riffraff would write much grittier, rougher stuff... Such as Du Fu #杜甫! #poetry #graffiti #Chinese #studying #unidays

Few people know that in the Englischer Garten, the central park in #Munich, a statue of #Confucius can be found. It was a present by the #Chinese partner province of #Bavaria, #Shandong Province. With statues by #Dostoevsky and #Heine, the master's countenance is an unexpected sight to behold.

My presentation at #DOT2025 @fau.de concerned "Praise and Blame? Zhu Xi's 朱熹 Reception of Zheng Xuan 鄭玄". A very brief foray into #Song #China, I found that Zhu Xi (1130-1200) and his disciples actively considered Zheng Xuan's (127-200) #commentaries to the #Confucian #classics. (1)

The Kollegienhaus of @fau.de (venue of #DOT2025), finished in 1889 when the university's student numbers exceeded 1,000. It is built in the style of a castle, manifesting the significance afforded to research at the time. #Erlangen #history #castle #sinology #conference

A bit of an outlier, my contribution is on commentarial #zukunftsphilologie (future #philology) techniques to secure an enduring intellectual legacy. #sinology
