I agree with you on this.
The main reason was simply social media amplified misinformation, if you ask me.

Many people I spoke to (most with neutral/pro positions) were totally surprised as I told them I built a spreadsheet and get more back through the rebate, as they will likely too.

Thank you for sharing. Very interesting perspective.
I’m quite surprised it’s the very first time I read an analysis about this topic that excluded the oil industry, and I’ve read quite a few.

Yes, it will increase his chances of getting elected - again.
And that’s pretty much it.

You are blaming the federal government for provincial responsibilities. Learn the difference. There has been a decade + of Con governments in the majority of the country at the provincial level. They have gutted rent controls, refused increases in minimum wage, eroded public housing & healthcare etc

I’m far from arguing bad management did a major role in this mess as well.
The government did its part too by upholding service mandates that don’t reflect the reality anymore.
All stakeholders have to accept this organization needs profound changes. And it needed them 5-10 years ago.

Yes, profits shouldn’t be the primary function. That’s why it’s a crown corporation.
However, it can’t burn through billions of $ with a steep upward trajectory in tax revenue each year.
Major changes are inevitable in order to operate sustainable and competitive.

Both can be true at the same time.

I’m surprised that’s still news.
That was pretty obvious, wasn’t it?

Agreed.
The European auto industry survived it too.
They got lots of investment, competition and have a way better market from a consumer perspective as they opened their market for Chinese EVs.
And even if the Canam auto industry in 🇨🇦 won’t survive it, Australia is an example to follow.

Finally, some encouraging news from Alberta!

So, pretty much exactly the same the US does with European visitors since forever as well?

I wonder if this plan was just about saving $ on staff at those stations.

Via is the only transport link for Kingston.
It’s right in the middle between Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto. The latter 2 are connected by multiple flights each day.

It’s absurd.

+ it’s left out of the high speed corridor.

They would be granted 600 points, which is a certain pick under the federal system under the condition they settle in the province that invited them.

In his situation, I would argue, it’s the provinces responsibility.
Provinces have their own immigration streams under the fed system. Ontario could (theoretically) set up a healthcare stream and invite all healthcare professionals in the system to apply.

Perhaps. However, that’s pretty much what they do with the targeted draws. It’s going to take lots of those incremental steps and constant realignment in order to fix this for the long term.

I think it’s absolutely reasonable to grant additional points to people who speak both official languages.
The overemphasis on French, however, exacerbates the pressure on the system. Today, it is extremely difficult for skilled experts to enter and transition to permanent status.

Thank you for pointing this out.
I’ve received MULTIPLE push notifications from the CBC news app for the “live coverage”, “live updates” and “breaking news” yesterday.

As someone who just recently went through the immigration system, I can only agree.
It’s not working the way it’s intended anymore.
Furthermore, the overemphasis on French language skills is absurd. They draw French language speakers to extremely low scores, while it’s out of reach for most.

I wouldn’t make that argument. 2% is still a very low number and writhing statistical variance, if you ask me.
September 19, 2025 at 2:43 PM
This doesn’t surprise me at all.
What does, however, is the 7% Bloc. wtf?
September 19, 2025 at 12:58 PM
“More like 11, if not 50” is what he says, if you’re curious 😂
