Just an ordinary middle-aged English born Scot with an interest in politics, trying to make sense of a world that doesn't. Any opinions expressed are my own, and I try to be balanced and thoughtful, though I occasionally have been known to falter.
You are a genius, sir. You made watching Liz Truss both entertaining and appalling. (For the avoidance of doubt, she was the appalling aspect).

It’s not like we didn’t already have many reasons not to go to the USA, is it?

Now +1.

Well done you. I stepped off a treadmill 26 years ago, went self employed, chose a completely different career and moved to a new home, in another country, (OK from England back to Scotland). I still wish I’d started writing though, so it’s admiration from me, sir. You’ll be just fine :)

That's a huge raft of potential tourists not going to the USA, then. Including me, my family, most of my friends..

Just as well there are so many other fab places to visit, which aren't run by a bunch of incompetent white supremacists. Bugger, I've barred myself from the US again, haven't I?

My 21yo son and a few of his friends were discussing going to the World Cup (to see Scotland in what might be a once in a lifetime opportunity) and my wife and I both said “don’t go”. Saddened to even think like it, and although he is white and male so should be OK, the risk is not worth taking.

Yes, it’s pathetic, but is reposting this merely further promoting a sad barrel scraper who desperately seeks attention, whilst none of us are desperately seeking Susan?

Although, MTG seems to have had an epiphany and almost started talking recognisable sense. I’m not sure Truss will ever have the ability to do that. She is down a rabbit hole far deeper than any state she can imagine.

One day, the President will be gone, and Ms. Leavitt won’t have the lights, the cameras, the glitz, the patronage or the position.

She’ll just have herself, and have to live with it. She is quite young, so that’s a lot of years for her to reflect on just how shameful she has been.

They don’t seem to have a plan for when Trump is no longer their benefactor. The public humiliation they put themselves through now will still prevail long after he has gone, and they will have to live with that for the rest of their days. Once the cult has worn off, they might even feel ashamed…

They had such an opportunity - huge majority, useless opposition, a country yearning for something different, the chance to give us a vision of hope and humanity, regardless of difficult problems.
Instead we get no hope, probable non-solutions, and no idea of why or where it’s going. F’ing travesty

Dear God. People having fun, living life, despite their circumstances. “Raving mad” are the f*ckwits who publish this dross, and the brainless morons who think that somehow these people should spend their time, quietly, consumed by fear. For many, that is what they are here because of, not to endure

Wait, so there are people travelling to France, probably on big boats, with the intention of committing crimes, who then get to return to their home country where they will face no consequences whatsoever?

That, my friend, really IS an immigration problem. France should forthwith “Stop the Brits”.
November 20, 2025 at 6:32 AM
“RESPECTED” by…… anyone? Other adjectives come more readily to mind - repulsed, sickened, abhorred, feared, disgusted, hated…..
November 19, 2025 at 7:31 AM
You hear her child in the background “Mom, can we go?”. The fear, shock and trauma of witnessing this will have a profound effect on your kids, as well as your adults, and you have at least 3 years of it still to come.
November 19, 2025 at 7:08 AM
Why would you go? OK, if you are white, male and wore a red baseball cap you would probably get in and out unscathed, but if you have any conscience, you will still be tainted by it.

Just attending the matches in Canada and Mexico, though, might make for a PR victory for them.

It’s not really surprising. For most of them it will be numbers and fear. They fear losing the numbers, so they stay with the numbers. The thought of almost starting again would be too much of a revenue/readership hit, so they don’t do it. Musk has them all by the proverbials.

That's not a problem with my analysis, as the point I make is broader than deciding if a particular pledge was subjectively anything. If anything, you make my point. A "grossly incompetent" pledge gets ditched; make that the story angle.
November 7, 2025 at 8:32 AM
If we make such a massive deal of manifestos, we risk never being able to adapt to circumstances that didn't exist at the time they were published. It's a bad idea, based on the (understandable) desire to nail politicians when they inevitably have to go a different way (that we don't agree with?).
November 7, 2025 at 8:24 AM
This is what hacks me off about you media types. The party of government changes a pledge because it (finally) works out it has to, and it's straight away framed as "reversing a key manifesto pledge" so they can be attacked for recognising it (whilst forever being berated for not being bold enough)

I’m neither monarchist nor republican, but I don’t really follow your argument. I fail to see how having a presidential system rules out the possibility of a person with a truly dodgy past getting to that position. Nefarious characters have a history of doing ‘well’ in whatever system prevails.

Yet more self projection. A wannabe King, absolutely full of ***t, dumps his own payload on the American people, and thinks it entertaining AI.

But he is doing this in reality as well, so it is kind of autobiographical….`

It's just indicative of X and why being there at all is just bad for everybody. It's just addiction (the fact that people still consistently refer to it as Twitter betrays the depth of it). The blue feathered predecessor to X deceased ages ago, as did worthwhile interaction.

Since many of his current day observations are highly fictionalised, it would be unsurprising if most of his childhood reminiscences are the works of fantasy from Dreamland.

When the goal is get rid of migrants, period, it has a twisted logic. If migrants can actually integrate more effectively having taken language lessons, that would make them less of a scapegoating target, and this particular lady wouldn’t want that, would she?
