Whenever I'm in Edinburgh, which happens usually once a year, I re-read that book :)
And yes, it's quite at the pulse. Or rather was.
If memory serves, then Charles Stross didn't continue the series (trilogy?) because he felt that innovation had overtaken his vision for this series
