Does the stipulation '24/7' mean it has to be playing all night too? In which case, I reckon the only answers that aren't going to drive you insane with sleep deprivation are things like Eno's Thursday Afternoon or one of the longer tracks from Max Richter's Sleep!

I don't *have* to drive the car in my version but, for reasons unknown, I've purloined the car, know full well I don't know how to drive it properly and am hoping I can just make it back without being stopped by the police.

I consider it one of those scales-falling-from-one's-eyes moments the day one realises that 'authenticity' in popular music is just a semiotic like any other.

This theme tune (and the mere sound of Joan Hickson's voice) are hardwired into the nostalgia circuit of my brain. It's a nice added extra that the show itself is actually so wonderful. You're tempting me towards a rewatch.

Almost inpossible for me to even feign objectivity about this album. I had become a massive ten-year old Queen fan in 1988 and this was their first new material since my conversion. I know it isn't a great suite of songs but it has such nostalgia for me that I can't bring myself to pan it.

I'm probably opening myself up to derision but I quite liked it. If only there were some way of actually re-watching it.

I'm utterly overjoyed to find there is consensus on my absolute favourite Portishead track.

This reminds me of 'I Care Because You Do' era Aphex Twin. Really harsh noise over an almost lullaby melody (which is 100% a good thing in my world).

It's no wonder our european neighbours chuckle at what passes for cuisine over here.

Blast (but fair point).

Brian Eno - St Elmo's Fire
Nazareth - Hair of the Dog

Cheers, Tom!

A tie between California and Margaret for me. White Mustang a strong third.

Always a fan of the songs sung by Brian so, for me, it's Leaving Home Ain't Easy with honourable mentions for Some Day One Day and Sail Away Sweet Sister.

Lady Grinning Soul for me (although honorable mentions for Letter to Hermione, Always Crashing In The Same Car and Joe the Lion).

Even as a big Queen fan, I hated the fact that they rocked up the Mr Bad Guy songs. I know they had to make an album's worth of songs somehow but I like those songs just fine as they were thanks.

This Jive Bunny song is so hardwired into my brain that, whenever I listen to any of those tracks, part of me still expects it to segue into one of the others.

The Joy Division/Russ Abbott combo might well be my favourite of the whole poll. Could there be a more complete juxtaposition of artists and styles?

If you're talking men in drag permeating female-only spaces, surely the paradigm movie would be Nuns On The Run

I was going to make a crack about awaiting the Crazy Frog comeback tour but Wikipedia informs me that he/it was still releasing singles as recently as 2023!!!!
April 26, 2025 at 2:03 PM
The idea that a predatory male may put on a frock and feign being trans in order to permeate female spaces when he could simply just sneak in is one of the silliest straw man arguments I've ever heard.

In terms of singles, I still unashamedly love Spiller's Groovejet. If we're doing album tracks then it's 13 Angels Standing Guard Round The Side Of Your Bed by A Silver Mt Zion.

Of course none of that detracts from the fact that listening to Tin Machine is like sandpapering your eardrums
