Basic player movement, crouching, and swinging are already fully functional. Dodging and basic enemy behavior are all that’s left before I start hooking up animation and combat again.

All that to say, this rebuild of the game should be worth it! All the menus and most of the combat code is completely intact. Once I have all the movement and related systems back in place, everything should work as before.

This worked fine for a while, but I found it gdscript very convenient to use when it came to writing and testing new systems. This means I was effectively using two programming languages for the game, and getting the two to communicate while constantly mentally switching gears was getting tiresome.

Inkwell started in the Unity engine around 2021 and ended up switching to Godot in late 2023. (College classes made progress very slow.) Godot’s .net version allowed me to port most of my old c# code with very little refactoring.
