European (disclosure in case I post something that appears to be written by an american, which I am not)
I am in depth gobsmacked how changed US is, or how it apparently always was... I never saw the Phantom of the Opera, but I suppose this is the ugly mask. I always had cold shiverings witnessing the obligatory applauds at the SOTU-speeches, but it has grown monstrously. Distasteful stuff to my eyes.

This is not about american internal political divisions. The label falls on whoever abandon the respect of the international rule based world order (as it is and as flawed and as mysterious it might be) and the historical borders that has been drawn (often after sacrifices of blood).

The gap is staggering between the gun culture it should be and the gun culture it actually is in USA. Hard to even find a vision in the american discourse of where it ought to be. Those visions are not visible in the public scene at least.

Yep. What I was thinking too...

I do not think it is wise to talk with Trump like Mark Rutte did. Isn´t this child psychology? There is a cost of surrendering to the child´s every whim and desire. Before long the demands and expectations of the child become unrealistic and unreasonable.

I am beginning to think USA has more than everything else a problem with its media. At least the only durable fix I can imagine is a change of media, how news is presented to the american public. If you ever wished there was a master key to disable this nightmare it is a change of your media.

Apart from her own poor judgement here the strict partisanship in the American two-party system is to blame. As an European I am always embarrassed on your behalf with the show of obligatory applauses at the SOTU-speeches. I have 8 parties to vote for and never ever had reason to applaud any of them

I am normally trying to be diplomatic, but this is what a "s*hole country" does. Violating the proper legal procedure and doing, well, what to expect in "s*hole countries".

The reason for why US healthcare is so expensive and under-performing is the presence of a leech (part) in the whole system: the private sector that is more interested in the profit from their stock than the outcome of the health provided. Simple as that.
March 26, 2025 at 8:54 PM
Healthcare is not like any other business. Outside of USA it is obvious. It is something we all need to supply when someone needs health care. The most efficient way is to do that is having a coherent organization how to do that and a tax funded way has proven to be the way to go.

Maybe the thread you should start with is why you yourself put the question of the median voter like that? The whole system is legally corrupt - lobbies legally bribing congress to their causes since a long time. Nothing to "assume" there.

Why don´t you report about something relevant? Like you could follow up how Tiger Woods´s foot is healing. You could rerun 2 days covering that since nothing seems to be happening anyway. (sarcasm, obviously)

What I am most astonished about is not Trump, but the gang of Trump fluffers =GOP obediently clapping like seals to whatever comes out from his mouth. This couldn´t happen without them. If you hope to find change you won´t find it with Trump but by breaking the unity in this cabal of Trump fluffers.
March 5, 2025 at 9:32 PM
Sheez... first your comment gave me nightmare visions, but then... isn´t that the whole truth and nothing but the truth about the state of the union? "The President and all his fluffers" is the name of this movie.

Yes.

I will do so too and completely with you on the part inside parentheses.

I will leave with my best advice. MSM may not be the only or the worst reason why US has fallen so terribly, but changing the media holds the master key to achieve real change. Start with re-introducing the fairness doctrine; at least the gist of it. Re-introduce the idea that lying in news is bad.

With so many americans going bankrupt from medical costs, something unheard of elsewhere.
And the fanatic drivel about guns and the geriatric and thoroughly bought leadership in Washington, to mention the most obvious ailments in USA. Change has to happen.
