If anyone bothered to ask the parents of these trans kids…we know this. It’s not something we are scared of; it’s a daily reality we are living. (my apologies for not reading the article, I just can’t bring myself)

I got rid of some of my mother's scarves & jewellery. In hindsight, they were small compared to sentimental value.

Kids think we got rid of a few items without consulting them. Would I do things differently? I don't know. I thought I'd been systematic & had kids input. Maybe expect disappointment!

We also had a few family members who were willing to take a box or two of sentimental items/heirlooms. Some we later agreed to let go of, others have been brought to us on visits.

We had our kids pack one suitcase each. My eldest filled theirs with Nerf guns, lol. We went through our favourite books and selected just a few to bring with us - no regrets 7 years later. They were also allowed a few stuffies that we shipped with the family quilts.

One thing we did was to have a US-based VOIP phone number. It makes calling businesses that you may have connections with so much easier.
